A loan of $7,500 helps an immigrant entrepreneur to buy more inventory for a new dog treat brand.
Tekin's story
I’m a first-generation immigrant. I moved to the US almost 6 years ago for my master’s degree, loved the country, and stayed. I had hard times during Covid like most of us, but that difficult period made me realize how lucky I am to be here. I’ve always been a hard worker, but decided to work even harder to make my little dreams come true. :)
My love for animals comes from my cat, Pie. Fourteen years ago, I adopted her when she was 4 months old from an adorable old lady who fostered stray cats. My connection with her made me love animals even more, but I was also lucky to be raised in a family who’d taught me to love and care for all animals unconditionally. Doing work that can help animals at the same time thrilled me like nothing else, and I eventually created Pupvita™: a natural supplement brand for dogs. At this point, I owe a huge thank you to my long-time friend Sammy who is a doctor of veterinary medicine and board-certified animal nutritionist. I couldn’t be here without his help.
According to Banfield Pet Hospital’s 2021 research, the most common diagnoses made by US veterinarians are preventable with the right support. Natural ingredients such as fish oil can achieve great results in preventing skin and coat-related diseases in dogs. According to Healthy Paws Pet Insurance’s third annual Cost of Pet Health Care 2018 report, the number-one complaint in dogs is skin complaints. Giving your dog preventive health care treatment can reduce vet bills and increase your dog's health-span. We believe using natural ingredients is not enough to make a dog supplement safe. We use only premium human food ingredients and make our chews in an FDA-registered facility, following human food production standards.
I hold three business degrees and have 10+ years of experience in marketing, mostly for e-commerce, pet businesses, and entertainment. After Covid, I decided to focus only on pet businesses and spent my last 2 years building a dog supplement brand from scratch for a small company. That brand reached $1M in sales last year; now, it is time to pursue my dreams and launch my own brand. I’ve gathered a small, remote team. We’ve been working on Pupvita™ for the last 6 months, and with the team’s great effort, are ready to launch.
