Let’s make Valentine’s Day truly sweet for Kiva borrowers around the world! You are invited to participate in Kiva’s Loan Love Lightning Round, a flash fund to help support our food producing and vending borrowers. Our goal is to fund 1,400 food businesses by February 14!
Food producers and vendors help support their families and communities in many ways that range from managing farms to selling home-cooked products in local marketplaces. Funding will allow them to do everything from diversifying their selection of crops to buying ingredients in bulk for more savings.
In the past, loans through Kiva have helped borrowers like Carla in Peru to not only maintain and expand their food business, but to also secure income for their families. Carla is a mother of three young girls who makes and sells desserts. You can listen to Carla describe how her Kiva loan helped her in the video below:
Many other borrowers like Yacine from Senegal and Nida from the Philippines run small shops or stands selling home-cooked goods. A loan enabled Yacine to purchase a large supply of millet to prepare more couscous to sell in a village market. With increased revenues, she can support her husband and six children more comfortably. Similarly, Nida also has a large family that she supports with her food vending business by selling snacks and other delicious delicacies. She used her recent loan to purchase more ingredients for her shop and to invest in expanding her business.
