Why are you interested in becoming a Trustee?

Higher Purpose Co. is a nonprofit social impact agency based in the Mississippi Delta. Our organization is interested in becoming a Kiva Trustee help entrepreneurs start or expand their businesses. Higher Purpose Co. is uniquely positioned to help business owners through the loan process. We seek to expand our capital access program and would love to provide a reasonable lending option to our community. Our staff provides training, coaching, and access to a variety of business resources. Traditional loans are rarely an option for entrepreneurs in our network due to low credit scores and existing personal debt. We seek to improve local economies by empowering entrepreneurs through character based loans with no interest. The opportunity to join the Kiva family will be leveraged to engage community stakeholders as lenders.

What is the mission of your organization?

Higher Purpose Co. mission is to build community wealth in underserved areas across the Mississippi Delta by supporting entrepreneurs, landowners, and artists.

Borrower Due Diligence

How will you decide who to endorse as a borrower? What due diligence will you conduct?

Higher Purpose Co. will endorse borrowers based on their participation in one of our business trainings. We will waive the requirement of attending one our trainings if the borrower is referred to us or the business has been operating for at least three months. Our staff will conduct due diligence by understanding the personal character of each potential borrower. We will determine the readiness for a Kiva loan by reviewing the business concept and the current or projected monthly revenue. This effort will help us minimize risk and accelerate capital access by identifying dedicated entrepreneurs.
