Trustee: Pace University Small Business Development Center

New York, NY

Overview

Why are you interested in becoming a Trustee?
The Pace SBDC works with a wide range of small businesses, many of which are owned by minorities and/or women, who struggle to secure financing because they are start-ups and/or have poor or limited credit history. As such, Kiva loans help our clients access much-needed capital to build their credit and enable them to generate a positive impact in their community.
What is the mission of your organization?
The Pace University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides free business counseling and classroom training to entrepreneurs and small business owners. Our services include helping businesses access financing, develop business plans and financial projections, and identify government procurement opportunities and strategies for increasing sales (in particular for minority and women-owned businesses). Pace SBDC advisors also guide entrepreneurs through the process of forming their legal structure, as well as provide invaluable demographic, economic and other key market research.

Borrower Due Diligence

How will you decide who to endorse as a borrower? What due diligence will you conduct?
The Pace SBDC works closely on a 1:1 basis with small business owners in the development of their business plans and projections, and has a first-hand understanding of how prepared the client is to launch or grow their small business venture and capacity to repay any debts
