Trustee: Becca Parker

Portland, OR

Overview

Why are you interested in becoming a Trustee?
I see Kiva Zip with its generous no-interest microfinancing loans as the hope of the nation- for entrepreneurs, individuals & communities. It is a brilliant way to support and recreate healthy communities. I want to be part of that! I see Kiva as a solution to the dismal state of the economy and our culture. Kiva offers a concrete and awesome way to create a stable economy & communities. It is fostering community with the ability of lenders and borrowers to communicate, with lending criteria based on character, and with the ability of trustees to seek out those in the community that they have a firm relationship with that would be excellent candidates for these loans. Community can be established through the channels that Kiva recommends, and this to me is vitally important & inspiring. I am impressed with the work of the economist and Buddhist practitioner Charles Eisenstein. He talks extensively about building "gifting" societies as a solution- as an alternative to the current economy.. It seems to me that Kiva fits beautifully into the model he has proposed. As I have so much enthusiasm for models that truly support people and healthy societies, and as I listen to and follow my heart, my passions, for what I am excited about and what my next steps will be, it brings me into a welcome relationship with you. Kiva rates 10/10 in terms of my enthusiasm! So, my intention is to be a vital and integral part of the Kiva team. This is just the beginning.

Borrower Due Diligence

How will you decide who to endorse as a borrower? What due diligence will you conduct?
Character, social impact & sustainability are high on the list for deciding to endorse. Kiva guidelines would be adhered to, as well as my inclination to be personally involved in the success of people. I am thorough & a good mentor. I would like to connect monthly for followup.
