As an economic development professional, accessing patient capital is paramount to small business success. Making affordable capital available to a diverse group of competent entrepreneurs is critical to building a local economy of small businesses that are invested in the success of the community. Local businesses are an essential building block of a healthy community.

How will you decide who to endorse as a borrower? What due diligence will you conduct?

Meet with entrepreneurs/business owners, when possible, and reach out to my network of contacts for referrals. May come across potential borrowers at work that do not meet the standard loan criteria of my employer, which is a SBA micro lender and community development financial institution.
