Why are you interested in becoming a Trustee?

Offering low-interest micro-loans to aspiring farmers, especially minorities, is and has been a vital part of the success of our project. Opportunities to use small capital for small equipment purchase, small infrastructural development, and covering basic operational costs often mean the difference between a business success or failure in early stages.

What is the mission of your organization?

The New Farmer Development Project, part of FARMroots, works to identify educate and support aspiring farmers with agricultural experience to start their own environmentally and economically sustainable farm business in the NYC region.

Borrower Due Diligence

How will you decide who to endorse as a borrower? What due diligence will you conduct?

Given that we had a micro-loan fund in the past, we have a good sense of the reliable and non-reliable producers we work with.We maintain very close relationships with all the farmers working with our project, often being made aware of financial information, including sales and debt.
