We reached $2 billion in life-changing loans!
In the time it took you to read this sentence, $3.52 was funded on Kiva.
Over the past 18 years, all those contributions have added up to $2 billion in impact — thanks to you, the Kiva community. Whether you lend to support entrepreneurs or volunteer to translate borrower stories, there are so many ways to be a Kivan. Whatever your role, being a Kivan means being part of something bigger… creating a world where financial inclusion is in our hands — all our hands.

From small-business backers and community-building philanthropists to equity-driven employees, it takes a team of Kivans to pursue big goals like financial access for all. There are so many ways to be a Kivan — which are you?
The road to $3 billion starts with you
Small, manageable acts of good on Kiva add up to big strides for worldwide change. That’s why we need your help! Pave the way to the next billion and help us support the dreams of millions more people.
Lend to a borrowerWho got us to $2 billion? You!
The kind of work we do in the world takes a special community — a team — that believes in financial equity and opportunity and actively contributes to that vision. Together with over 2 million others, Kivans like you are helping create a world where all people have the power and resources to change their lives.
Lenders
Lenders are the beating heart of Kiva, using their collective power to fund dreams across the globe.
Frans, a lender from a small town of less than 100 people in the Netherlands, transformed a monthly $25 loan into more than $17,000 in support to Kiva borrowers — proving that anyone can help change lives, from anywhere.
“There are so many people to help. I’d rather share with as many as possible.”
— Frans, Kiva lender — Multiplier
Volunteers
Volunteers do the important work of telling borrower's stories—editing and translating their words to connect with Kiva lenders.
Anita began volunteering with Kiva in 2019 and has edited over 140,000 words! She was named Kiva Volunteer of the Month in February 2023 in recognition of her longstanding commitment to financial equity.
“Kiva gives me the opportunity to touch lives by editing, and that I don’t take for granted.”
— Anita, Kiva volunteer — Giver
Borrowers
From the very first Kiva borrower — Elizabeth in Uganda, who used her $500 to expand her fish shop — to the 5 millionth borrower, Kiva supports those who need financial access in over 70 countries.
Xiomara, a Venezuelan refugee in Ecuador, used a Kiva loan to revive her business and quickly earn income after the deaths of both her husband and daughter. Now she provides salon treatments to help women in her community feel more beautiful.
“I’d like to tell people who also are migrants that they shouldn’t limit themselves or hold back in face of adversity. I think if we follow a good path, we’re going to achieve our goals.”
— Xiomara, borrower and business owner — Champion for Good
Strategic Partners
Kiva partners accelerate change through Kiva’s innovative tools that create impact and unite people around a shared cause.
Together, Kiva and the eBay Foundation unleash the power of entrepreneurship to help people build economically vibrant and sustainable communities. This partnership also empowers eBay employees to make an impact they can really see and feel.
“Kiva’s work is important, meaningful, and tangible. Kiva brings people together to create a collective impact that is so special to be part of.”
— Allie, President, eBay Foundation — Community Builder
Employees
Kiva’s global team of employees harness their dedication to social impact and sustainable change to support communities around the world.
As Kiva’s Director of Communications, Brit is passionate about purpose-driven communications and storytelling. She helps ensure that every aspect of Kiva, from internal committees to official language and branding, is rooted in inclusion and equity.
“Doing work that aligns with my values and knowing I'm using my talents and experiences to contribute to creating a better world for people is so fulfilling.”
— Brit, Director of Communications, Kiva — Believer
Donors
From adding a small donation with your loan to making major gifts that turn the tide for financial inclusion, donors make all of the important work we do possible.
As a longtime Kiva lender, Frank — artist, seeker, and lover of humanity — chose to include Kiva in his estate plans because he felt passionate about continuing to drive financial equality for future generations.
“Frank recognized that Kiva was a unique mechanism to support those with the desire to manage their own futures. Although Frank made financial gifts to those in need, he understood that it is always better to teach a man to fish.”
— Jude, Frank’s sister — Giver
Lending Partners
From microfinance institutions (MFIs) to social enterprises, Kiva Lending Partners are united by a strong commitment to expanding financial access.
CAURIE Microfinance is one of the largest MFIs in Senegal, focused on supporting women in rural communities. Since becoming a Kiva Lending Partner, CAURIE has supported more than 150,000 borrowers, funding over $38 million.
“CAURIE has helped women feel important and recover their dignity. By having their own businesses, people regard them with greater respect.”
— Mamadou, Executive Director, CAURIE MF — Equity Advocate
Lending Teams
Kiva lending teams bring people together around common interests, beliefs, or goals, driving major impact in their chosen area, like climate solutions.
Eleanor, captain of Kiva’s Climate Pilots lending team, focuses on funding eco-smart loans and supporting green technology. As of 2023, the Climate Pilots have funded almost $5 million in climate-smart loans.
"Supporting Kiva loans to finance solar, recycling, reducing food waste, etc. helps our climate more per dollar than my electric car."
— Eleanor, Climate Pilots captain — Champion for Good
