Fass Jom Passy Group's story
Yama, holding the sheep's horn, is the chairwoman of the “FASS JOM” group, a Wolof term which means “Union with courage” in French. She is a 51-year-old stockbreeder. Seated in front and raising her right hand, she is married to a farmer and the mother of three children aged 14 to 17, and takes care of one child who is five years old.
Yama is a reliable VFS customer, and has been in the business for 11 years. With this loan, she plans to buy animals (goats and sheep) and hay, enabling her to strengthen her business and increase her income. To obtain her supplies, Yama goes to the weekly markets in her locality, before selling them in the neighborhood and surrounding areas.
The income she generates enables her to meet her family's needs in the following areas: health, food, education and hygiene. Among the difficulties she faces are stiff competition, the loss and illness of her animals, and the high cost of transport. Yama wants to become a renowned sheep herder and have a large herd.
