A loan of $8,500 helps an immigrant family acquire a commercial space to serve Colombian and Venezuelan food.

Jeffry's story
My name is Jeffry. I am a Colombian immigrant with two sons with an education in business administration and 10 years of experience in the gastronomy and hospitality industry.
I have been an entrepreneur since I was young. I took every opportunity offered to me, managing various restaurants and food businesses – I love sharing my culture through our traditional foods from Barranquilla, Colombia. It was with great pain, that I had to abandon my home after my family’s safety was threatened. It was clear that these threats wouldn’t cease as long as my family stayed.
Forced to pack, my wife and I gathered our children and bags fleeing with faith and dreams for a safe, stable future. Our first months in Wisconsin were not easy until we discovered a large community of Colombians and Venezuelans who all came here with similar stories such as mine. Many of us were threatened and forced to move in order to save our families’ lives. We noticed that, while there was a large community of us, we didn’t have any food that represented our cultures.
One weekend, we gathered our close friends to make food that reminded us of home, we sold everything in the span of a weekend amongst our community. I saw a great opportunity to provide the much missed food from our homeland, especially with my background in food business. The only thing that we are lacking is access to funding. I want to create a space for our community members and our American friends to share the flavors of our land.
