Aisha's story

Aisha is 38 years old and lives in the town of Kangulumira in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has 5 children, with 4 of them currently in school. For the past 10 years, Aisha has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells general merchandise items like sugar, salt, cooking oil, raw food, and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Aisha has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt, cooking oil, and soft drinks for sale, and will help Aisha to generate greater profits and repay the loan on time, as well as pay some of the house bills.

Aisha hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business more to a bigger wholesaler and increase her savings. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
