Irene's story

Irene is 45 years old and lives in the town of Njeru in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has six children with five of them currently in school.

For the past one year, Irene has been working hard to manage her boutique, in which she sells all kinds of adult clothes like shirts, dresses etc.

To help expand her business, Irene has requested a loan of 1,300,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more fashionable clothes for resale and will help Irene to generate greater profits and manage to provide some basic needs and food for her family.

Irene hopes that in the future she will be able to become a powerful business woman and own a big shop in town.

She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
