Ester's story

Esther is 40 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has four children, who are all currently in school. For the past four years, Esther has been working hard to manage her grocery store, where she sells raw food.

To help expand her business, Esther has requested a loan of 400,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more raw food and vegetables for resale. This will help Esther to generate greater profits and manage to improve her standard of living by providing enough food for her family.

Esther hopes that in the future, she will be able to build rentals for business.

She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
