Agnes's story
Agnes is 40 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has 6 children. She has been working hard to manage her restaurant, in which she has sold cooked food and soft drinks for the past 10 years. To help expand her business, Agnes has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh varieties of food for breakfast and lunch as well as a fridge for soft drinks. This will help Agnes to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing them with enough food.
Agnes hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a piece pf land and build a house of her own. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
