Ruth's story

Ruth is 45 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children, 2 of whom are currently in school. For the past 20 years, Ruth has been working hard to manage her tailoring business, in which she sews clothes for sale.

To help expand her business, Ruth has requested a loan of 3,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more patterns of clothes for making new dresses to sell, and will help Ruth to generate greater profits and improve on her family's standard of living by providing them with enough food.

Ruth hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land and build a house. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
