Alice's story

Alice is 44 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children, with 3 of them currently in school. For the past 16 years, Alice has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells firewood.

To help expand her business, Alice has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more firewood to resell. It will help Alice to generate greater profits, and her production will increase and attract more revenue. She will manage to buy food for her family.

Alice hopes that in the future she will be able to acquire land and construct a house of her own. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
