A loan of $25,000 helps a 2-time Kiva borrower stock 100 stores with bean-based mix, making beans the next breakfast staple!

Narell's story
I grew up in Ecuador where we ate beans all the time, but I didn’t realize how great they were until I moved to the U.S. in 2017 to learn English. Coming from a family that struggles with autoimmune diseases, I faced my own health challenges as my body reacted poorly to the proteins available here. This struggle led me to discover the superior protein quality of beans. After experiencing the health benefits firsthand, I was driven to make beans a staple in the U.S.
I moved to the here., initially planning to learn English and then return to Ecuador. However, the opportunities in the U.S. food industry quickly caught my attention. I founded Full of Beans, realizing the difficulty of incorporating bean base protein into daily diets. Later, my co-founder, also from Ecuador with a background in tennis and fitness, joined me. Together, our mission is to make people’s daily dose of beans effortless, offering healthy and nutritious bean-based products for breakfast.
Since arriving in the U.S., I have achieved significant milestones. I completed my English studies and earned a degree in Food and Sustainability. During my studies, I developed my business idea and launched it just before graduating. This initiative led to a scholarship for a Food Product Development program at Cornell University, marking a significant opportunity in my journey. In the future, I want to make more products with beans because they’re good for both people and the planet.
Running my business as a foreigner has taught me resilience and perseverance, and as someone who moved to a new country, I hope to help others who are trying to make it in a new place just like I did
