Ana (31 years old) is an empowered woman who aspires to be an example for her family and community through her business. With just a sixth-grade education fifteen years ago, she works planting cardamom. She sells wholesale to order. Ana employs ten people to weed, maintain her crops, and ensure the good yield of her harvests.

She is married to a mason and has four children from 18 months to 9 years old. Two are students in the first and second grades of primary school. Ana is happy because, with her income, she supports her spouse with the household expenses and their children’s education.

Her goal is to expand crops and generate a more prominent, quality yield. She asks for her second Kiva loan to purchase more seeds, fertilizers, and soil amendments to get a quality harvest.

Ana is the secretary of the Friendship Bridge communal bank Las Guerreras with six other Maya Q’eqchi women from the department/state of Quiché. They work planting cardamom, operate small convenience stores, and raise domestic animals.

The Microcrédito Plus program is vital for these women as it offers them monthly training where they learn about health, business, family, and women’s topics, and bi-monthly visits from a nurse who provides all sorts of essential services, consultations, and information requests.
