Mujeres Anexo Palo Gordo Group

Mujeres Anexo Palo Gordo Group's story

Mauda is a thirty-six year old mother of three teenagers who range in age from thirteen to nineteen. Her oldest son is married and there is one grandson in the family. She is married to a heavy transport driver. Mauda only attended school for three years.

Two years ago, she began selling vegetables from her home and in the local market. She also raises chickens. Mauda requests her first Kiva loan to buy more vegetables, chickens and feed for them.

Mauda and six of her friends formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Anexo Palo Gordo” in the department/state of Suchitepequez. These women prepare/sell regional foods and snacks, manage their convenience stores or raise poultry and animals.

Since they are a new Trust Bank, they have not yet received monthly educational training. However, since many of them have little or no formal education, they will benefit greatly as they learn about how to manage their businesses best, care for their health and family, and empower themselves.

The training is part of the very effective “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education, and healthcare. Every other month, they will have access to basic healthcare services including exams, consults and family planning.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for lending a helping hand to Mauda and her friends!

Happy New Year!
