Keia's story

My husband, Martyn, and I always say our love story is rooted in coffee because it was the thing that brought us together. So in 2020, we started Keia & Martyn’s Coffee, and online subscription company, just months before the pandemic hit.

Martyn and I continued building the online business, and working our full-time jobs in the non-profit and coffee fields. As the pandemic and the highlighting of the injustices and cruelty so many of us have faced in the US began was being realized, we decided to transform Keia & Marytn’s Coffee into a business with me as the face and roaster.

With the help of the Kiva community (we paid off our first loan early and this will be our second), we have been able to expand our commitment to providing the highest quality coffees from farmers committed to our same values of environmental stewardship and mission-centered ethics. I also developed what I call our Equity Pricing Model that allows more people access to these great coffees by allowing customers to choose the right pricing level for them. We have been featured in various tv and radio series highlighting some of the new wave and future of coffee roasters. And finally we were able to open our first shop in our local mall, becoming one of a growing number of independent, small businesses bringing new life and community to our local shopping center.

Now we find ourselves with an opportunity to diversify our presence by opening a new brick and mortar in downtown Portland. We want to be part of the story of people who brought life and spirit back to our downtown area that was ravaged by the pandemic. And we can do it with a little investment from you
