Tap Effect

Tap Effect's story

Cambodia has the lowest piped water coverage in Southeast Asia, with significant disparities between rural, semi-rural, and urban areas. Over 12 million people in Cambodia face unreliable water supplies and are high-risk for waterborne diseases, the second leading cause of death for children under five.

Tap Effect is a Cambodian social enterprise founded in 2019 that is leveraging sustainable technology to provide affordable and safe tap water directly to households in the country’s underserved, last-mile communities.

Tap Effect has provided clean tap water to over 3,800 rural households, 18 schools, and 4 health centers through tech-enhanced water systems they own and operate. Tap Effect’s year-round solution to water scarcity improves affordability and enhances efficiency with low-cost remote monitoring and leak detection.

Kiva’s loan will enable safe, stable water for 1,000 households, particularly benefiting women and girls who are typically responsible for water collection, leading to increased wage employment, school attendance and personal safety for women. This is Tap Effect’s first loan through the Kiva Social Enterprise program.
