Kella's story

I graduated with a BFA in Game Design from Academy of Art University in May 2022. What followed was a couple years of unexpected back-to-back hardships. This ultimately resulted in becoming homeless and hungry. After working on a game that was four years into its development, I had to leave the project to focus on my personal life.

I was given a roof by my extended family, and about 6 months later I started Fruit Salad. I saw the state of the industry, the 13,000+ layoffs, and knew something had to change. There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of artists and developers facing the same struggles I just overcame.

I am driven by a desire to invoke in players the same emotions and personal development that games have provided for me. I advocate for originality and creativity, as that is what makes a game memorable.

My art is in designing gameplay, and it has played a large role in my life for as long as I can remember. Games are what I know, and what I want to be surrounded by for the rest of my life.

'Fruit Salad' is a metaphor for the collaboration and diverse experience required to create a video game.

"It's hard to make a good fruit salad with only apples and pears in your fruit bowl".
