Crac Nueva Esperanza Del Canton
A loan of $3,950 helps to increase staple grain production and contribute to food security.
Crac Nueva Esperanza Del Canton's story
CRAC Nueva Esperanza del Canton (New Hope Community Bank in Spanish) has been able to live up to its name in the town of El Cantón of Honduras. Founded 20 years ago as a community-owned bank that provides credit to this town, it is now ready to broaden its mission and help financially-excluded farmers from nearby communities to increase staple grain yield.
This association was established by corn, beans, plantain and grass growers who felt that the community could only be transformed through cooperation. They also provide train training for younger generations on sustainable farming practices such as the use of crop rotation.
CRAC Nueva Esperanza del Canton is applying for a Kiva loan to increase staple grain production. With the funds, they are looking to purchase farm inputs allowing young farmers and nearby towns to carry on this noble work.
We appreciate your support and for being part of shaping a brighter future for smallholder farmers and contributing to food security in the region. Shown in the photograph below are some of the leaders of this community-owned bank.
