Wang's story

Wang is a hardworking mother of four who has spent years working in the fields and hiring out her labor to support her family. Together with her husband, she is excited to begin her first hammock weaving business, hoping it will bring more stability to their lives and allow them to break free from the challenges of traditional farming.

In her village, like many rural areas in Northern Thailand, traditional slash-and-burn agriculture has become increasingly unsustainable due to limited land and environmental hazards. Recognizing the dangers and instability of farming, Wang was inspired by friends to learn hammock weaving. She quickly realized that weaving could be more than just a job; it offered a safe, reliable income and the opportunity to create a sustainable business.

With this loan, Wang will purchase the necessary supplies to establish her artisan weaving business and produce hammocks consistently. Her goal is to transition away from the precarious life of field labor and build a brighter future for her family—one where they are no longer bound by the cycles of poverty and dangerous agricultural work.
