Mujeres Con Proposito Group
A loan of $4,100 helps a member to buy table stoves and dinnerware.
Mujeres Con Proposito Group's story
Thirty-year-old Wendy shares that she is one of 13 children and has only a sixth grade education. She is married to a cargo truck driver and they have two children who are four and 14 years old and in kindergarten and the seventh grade.
Wendy sells fruit, beverages, and mosquito netting and has been in this business for eight years. Four years ago, she began to sell small electrical appliances, aluminum, and pewter kitchenware. Her oldest son helps her with the business. She will use her portion of this loan to buy table stoves and dinnerware sets to sell. Wendy dreams of being a bigger business owner and opening branches.
Wendy has joined eight other women who live in the department/state of Suchitepequez to form the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres con Proposito” or “Women with Purpose”. Her friends in the group have tortilla shops, convenience stores, and sell clothing, catalog products, fruit, custom cakes, and small electrical appliances. They are pleased to participate in the “Microcredit Plus” loan program, monthly educational training (on subjects like health, family, women, and business), and bi-monthly healthcare services. Recent trainings have been about healthy practices to prevent women’s diseases. A facilitator designs and conducts the interactive training and a nurse offers exams, consults, and family planning.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for lending a helping hand to Wendy and her friends!
