Campo De Mixpilla Group

Campo De Mixpilla Group's story

Nineteen-year-old Dorcas, a single woman who lives with her parents and three siblings, is in her senior year of high school. She has been studying bookkeeping, and her dream is to continue her studies at the university and open her own accounting business.

For two years, she has managed her convenience store located in a room in her home. When she is in school, family members attend the business. Her goals are to expand the business and offer more products to her customers. Dorcas requests her first Kiva loan to restock the shelves and buy basic items, snack foods, beverages, and a much-needed refrigerator.

Dorcas is a member of the Friendship Bridge trust bank “Campo de Mixpilla” along with nine other Maya Tz'utujil women. They live in the department/state of Suchitepéquez. They participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program and greatly benefit from loan support, monthly educational training, and bi-monthly healthcare services.

One topic in their training is about effective business practices. They learn about budgeting and planning so that they can best take care of their respective prepared-food, animal-husbandry, sales of personal care products via catalog, and firewood sales businesses.

They also learn about health, family matters, and women’s issues. They appreciate having access to basic healthcare services including consults, exams, and family planning.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for your kindness in funding these much-needed loans!
