Flor De Mi Tierra Group's story

Twenty-two year old Regina, a mother of a two year old son, is married to a baker. She has a ninth grade education.

Five years ago, she started weaving traditional skirts called “cortes” that she sells by custom order. She also raises chickens and pigs. Her husband has recently learned to weave.

So, with a second Kiva loan, she would like to buy a second loom and thread at the wholesale level. She would also buy more pigs and chickens.

In the future, Regina would like to have her own storefront to attractively display her “cortes”.

Regina is the Secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Flor De Mi Tierra” in the department / state of San Marcos. There are seven other women in the group who also raise animals, weave “cortes” and sell regional snack foods.

A monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program, gives them essential information about relevant topics like business, health, family matters (nutrition, hygiene) and women’s issues (self-esteem, empowerment, rights/roles). Because they have little or no formal education, the training is very important for their empowerment and growth. Regina was fortunate to attend school for nine years.

Regina and her friends in the Trust Bank appreciate the kindness and generosity of Kiva lenders from all parts of the world who fund their loans ! Thank you, to each of you!
