Yahuza

Yahuza's story

Yahuza is a 30-year-old maize farmer in Kaduna, Nigeria's northern state, where he grows maize and other crops to support his family.

Maize farming is his community's primary occupation, and like many other farmers in his community, the income he earns from cultivating is insufficient to improve his family's standard of living.

Yahuza is married with three children. Babban Gona will provide him with high-quality inputs, allowing him to increase his yields. As a result of the training programs, Yahuza will be able to farm more sustainably. For example, his fertilizer training will emphasize micro-dosing fertilizers to reduce environmental impact while increasing yields.

Yahuza expects 40 bags per hectare from this year's harvest, double the national Nigerian average of 20 bags per hectare. Yahuza is seeking an increased loan toward leasing more land and expanding his farming business.

Babban Gona will provide him with higher-yielding seeds, fertilizers, and herbicides that will improve his farming operations and increase his yield, allowing him to earn up to two times the average annual income of a Nigerian farmer. Yahuza intends to put the proceeds toward accessing better health facilities for his family, opening an agro dealer shop, buying books and uniforms for his children, and investing back into his farm.
