A loan helped to invest in maintaining and growing 1 hectare of coffee.

Elvira's story

Elvira is 39 years old and lives in her own house made of rustic materials with her children in Santo Tomás district, Cutervo province, Cajamarca department in the country of Peru. She has very good personal and working references from local people. Most residents of this area work in agriculture, trade and raising cattle.

She works in agriculture, specifically growing coffee, with 1.5 hectares of disease- and pest-resistant Catimor coffee at present. This plantation is in its second year of production and she has 21 years of experience in this area. She also works raising small animals (chickens, guinea pigs) and growing staple crops (yucca, banana, taro) for consumption and occasional sale, as well as working as an agricultural labourer. She will use the loan to invest in maintaining and growing 1 hectare of coffee, ensuring a good crop for the 2016 season, leading to higher sales and resulting in more income so that she can improve her and her family's quality of life.
