A loan helped to acquire a 40-cubic-meter Sistema Biobolsa biodigester.

Concepcion's story

Concepcion is an experienced hog farmer; she owns close to 200 animals. As her activity started growing, she began to face an important problem: the amount of manure her farm was producing became more complex to manage every day. At the same time, she was buying tanks of LP gas and chemical fertilizer, which were reducing the profitability of her farm.

Concepcion decided to invest in a biodigester to turn these challenges - waste treatment and high expenses - into a solution: the production of renewable energy and organic fertilizer from her hogs' waste. Instead of piling their manure up outside the farm, where it was emitting greenhouse gases and contaminating underground water sources, bacteria will convert it into nutrient-rich organic fertilizer for Concepcion's corn field, and biogas for the energy needs. She will save money, reduce her carbon footprint and improve the overall quality of life on her farm as flies and bad smells will disappear.

This loan represents 41% of the price of the biodigester, the remaining part is covered by a downpayment from Concepcion and a subsidy.

This loan is special because:

It allows smallholder farmers to purchase biodigesters for organic fertilizer.
