A loan helped to cover the costs of higher education.

Geidy Chantal's story

Geidy Chantal is an international business student. She is requesting a loan to cover education costs. This is her story:

My name is Geidy Chantal. I am 21 years old, and I was born in the city of Monte Plata on February 17th, 1994. I have 3 sisters and I currently live with my mother, one of my sisters, and my niece. When I was 8 years old, I moved with my mother and sisters to the city of Santo Domingo, thanks to a relative of my mother who provided us with a house. We stayed there for about 12 years.

I studied at the Celina Pellier de los Mameyes school. Later, I finished medical studies at Politécnico Pilar Constanzo in Villa Duarte, and I graduated from there with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Business Administration. My mother was doing domestic work which benefited my sisters and me. Later, she was diagnosed with an illness which prevented her from continuing to work.

My father went to the United States when I was 2 years old, and he returned to see me when I was 13 years old. Since then, I have not received any support or help from him. I am currently studying International Business in the Universidad APEC. I would like to put my passion towards studying, and the most important is to be able to finish school. Since 2012, when I completed my mid-terms, the process of studying has been difficult for me. I have had to stop on many occasions, and I would like to finish school and graduate.

This loan would change my life, not only academically-speaking, but also personally because due to my situation at school, I often suffer from low self-esteem and depression. I feel this way when I start to believe that it won't be possible for me to finish college, which is my priority right now. If I don't receive this help, what was happened to me from 2012 until now could repeat itself. I have looked for other forms of assistance, but haven't found a way to be able to continue with school.

Once I finish school, my wish is to put into practice all that I have learned, and begin graduate school. I want to earn a Master's degree in International Rights. I would like this very much. At the university where I currently study, there is a dual-degree program. I would like to participate in this so that I can work abroad. Also, I would like to help my mother and my sisters in the same way that they have helped me. In this way, I can also serve as an example for my nieces, and my family will be proud of me.
