Silent Power Group's story

Making anything a success rests upon an individual’s commitment and passion towards what they are doing. Selina of the Silent power group is one of the people investing her efforts in things she is passionate about. She is a cross border trader to Zambia, South Africa, and Mozambique. Selina specialises in selling second-hand clothing. She sells at one of Harare’s busiest markets called “Mupedzanhamo,” which means the end of poverty.

Selina knows and believes that in business, competition means survival of the fittest. Although she is a very regular border crosser, crossing to neighbouring countries as much as three times a month, the stiff competition means that she should always have readily available stock and at different points of sale. It was at this point that Selina decided to open two more stands where she can sell her goods.

Selina has three people working for her and her business has grown. Having three market stalls meant that Selina had to ensure that they were adequately stocked to meet every customer's need. The major problem that she was now facing in her business was the lack of capital to restock more products to cater for her three tables.

Selina and her fellow group member, who is also a close business associate, joined Thrive after she saw an advert on television. They both saw it as an opportunity to grow their businesses and receive the relevant training.

Selina has been attending trainings that are offered at Thrive where she has learnt how to manage her business better than she used to. She is now able to keep and prepare her business financial records and track whether or not she is making a profit. She has also increased her knowledge in marketing clothes and can now make informed decisions on managing her business capital.

Through a loan from Thrive, Selina hopes to reach her business’s full capacity by restocking goods so she can meet her ever-increasing demand. Restocking more clothes for sale will also help her to boost her profits from the business.
