Piña Group's story

This solidarity group is made up of four women. All of them are of Miskita ethnicity from the city of Bilwi, a municipality of Puerto Cabezas. They are entrepreneurial women who fight day after day to grow their small businesses. They organized as a solidarity group about 4 years ago in order to arrange joint guarantee loans with Pana Pana. They decided to name the group after a fresh and delicious fruit.

Polijina is the coordinator of the solidarity group. She is a friendly woman, 46 years old, married, with leadership qualities. Her husband works in an informal manner helping with the loading of fruits and vegetables. She has 9 children: 6 are adults, 2 youths study at primary school and her little one is 4 years of age.

Seven years ago she opened a small grocery store renting a stall at one of the markets in the municipality of Puerto Cabezas. In this way she contributes to the household expenses and the education of her children.

She is asking for financing in order to buy provisions, yogurts, basic grains, detergents, among other products. She dreams of having a refrigerator so she can sell soft drinks, juice, sausages, and of having her own stall.

In this group: Berril, Liliana Alcira, Polijina, Zoila Iveth
