A loan helped to pay for her daughter's educational costs.

Pinki's story

Pinki is a married woman of 25 years. She lives with her husband and three children (two daughters and one son) in a small village, Kalirhat, in the district of Jalpaiguri. Pinki's husband is engaged in cultivation. Both Pinki and her husband could not complete their secondary education, so they try their hardest to provide education to their children. Pinki's elder daughter, Sumitra, reads in class 8 at Kalirhat D.C. High School. Her other two children are also studying.

Pinki's husband's meager income is the main hindrance in the education of her children. Her daughter Sumitra was promoted to grade 8 securing average grades. Her parents plan to provide better educational help to her so as to enable her to progress in her study. With an aim to be a teacher in the future, Sumitra wants to score good marks in her examination. But their household income is not sufficient to meet all her educational expenses.

Pinki heard that BJS (Kiva's partner) gives education loans to students so that they can keep on with their studies. So she has taken a loan for her daughter from them. She plans to use the total loan amount for paying coaching and school fees and purchasing necessary educational materials for her daughter.

Pinki and her daughter Sumitra (in the photo) are very much grateful to BJS and Kiva.
