A loan helped to buy organic fertilizer and to plant live barriers that are necessary to convert his coffee plantation to organic.

Pedro Antorio's story

Pedro is 55 years old, and he is married to Norma. He has 3 children, and he also takes care of a granddaughter. He finished primary school. Pedro's main occupation is in agriculture. He produces coffee which is certified by Rain Forest and Comercio Justo [Fair Trade], and he sells his coffee through COCAFCAL, which he is a member of. Pedro's dream is to have a good quality of life and that his children have better opportunities in the future.

Pedro wants to carry out some work that is necessary to convert his coffee plantation to organic such as planting live barriers to conserve the ground. Pedro wants to plant lemongrass as conservation barriers for his ground, which will also give him extra income since he can sell the lemongrass through COCAFCAL. In addition, converting to organic will enable him to sell his coffee in better markets.

Pedro has already prepared the land, and now he needs a loan to buy lemongrass seeds, pay for the labor costs, buy organic fertilizer for his coffee plantation, buy organic coffee plants, and buy other materials that are necessary for the conversion to organic.

A loan will help Pedro to earn more income from his coffee, and also it will help him to earn extra income by diversifying his farm. With the profits earned from selling his organic coffee and diversifying his farm, Pedro hopes for a better quality of life and better opportunities for his family.
