Kontien, a 48-year-old widow, lives in a rural commune in Mali with her child, who is not in school. She herself is illiterate. Her child is 20 years old. She still hopes to improve living conditions for him and her family in terms of healthcare and sufficient food. Kontien’s work is in agriculture. Through her business, she manages to ensure her child’s well-being. With five years of experience, she wants to pay for 150 kg of peanut seeds, plowing, and other farm inputs.
Kontien is the one in the photo at the end and holding a hoe. She turned to the microfinance institution due to needing seeds and plowing. She gets her supplies at the big local market and sells her goods for cash at the same place. Limited rain is a problem which occurs often.
