A loan helped a member to buy a good selection of cosmetics to sell.

La Loma De Gumarkaj Group's story

The Trust Bank's 'La Loma de Gumarkaj' or 'The Hill of Gumarkaj' initiated another loan cycle with Friendship Bridge and its first with Kiva. There are seven women that form this group, located in a community roughly 208 km from Guatemala City, known as Quiche.

Elisa, a member of the group, is a 33-year-old, single woman who dedicates herself to the sale of cosmetics. The inflow of cash that she acquires from work goes to helping support her parents and the cost of the house, while she pays for her studies at a university.

Elisa is requesting a loan, so that she may deepen her cosmetic selection and better satisfy her clients' desires. Elisa’s main drive to continue growing her business is to be able to financially maintain herself enough to graduate from the university.

Elisa, along with the rest of the group members, is beyond grateful for the support that Friendship Bridge and Kiva have given. The loans have provided a much needed, helping hand that has financed their path to a better quality of life.

Other than the loan she receives, Elisa, along with the rest of Friendship Bridge clients, is offered a monthly, non-formal education session that touches on various topics of personal development. The topics which Elisa and others receive include: health, family planning, business administration, financial literacy, and more. Thank you Kiva investors for your support for Elisa and all the other women!

In this group: Rosalva Lucrecia, Rosa, Maria, Carmen, Elisa Emelina, Lilyan Maritza, Maria Tomasa
