Mr. Sarum Prak Village Bank Group's story

The village bank which consists of fifteen people is located in Trapang Kda village in Kampong Chhnang province and all the members will use the loan for a different purpose. Mr. Sarum P. is a pig breeder. Since this business is going well, he wants to expand it so he decided to ask for a loan to buy three more piglets for breeding. His wife, Mrs. Sok Than, is a farmer who owns a small piece of land to cultivate rice to earn a living. Mr. Sarum P. is 50 years old and the father of four children, one of whom is working in a garment factory while the remaining three are attending the local school.


This is a village bank loan consisting of mainly end-of-term loans. Twelve members have end-of-term loans and the rest have monthly payment loans. These clients are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK’s main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and AMK has a default rate of 0% on Kiva.
