A loan helped a member to purchase peanut seeds for their fields.

Sabougnouma Group's story

Gouanssira is the woman with her hand raised in the photo.

Gouanssira is a 45-year-old farmer from Mali. She is a married mother to five children, two of whom are currently receiving an education. Her husband earns a living as a farmer during the winter season and also sells cereals after this period. They are both illiterate. Gouanssira has been farming for 20 years. She has been dissatisfied with her peanut field as each year she only has one hectare to work with. After thinking long and hard about her children's future, she turned to RMCR in order to take out a loan for her peanut field. Following the harvest, the profits from her peanut field will allow her to clothe her children and pay for their school fees. She purchases peanut seeds from her local market and sells her produce in the village or at market.
