A loan helped a member to buy seed and fertilizer to grow peanuts.

Bytou's Group's story

Bytou is seen smiling in the photo, sitting in the middle of the back row. She is a member of a group of seven farmers who work with the field partner, myAgro. The group all live and work in the village of Dialakoroba, south of Bamako, in Mali.

Bytou is 41 years old and mother to seven children, aged between one and twenty-two years old. Three of her children currently attend school. Bytou has been working in agriculture for twenty years, following other members of her family. She grows peanuts, sorghum, rice and vegetables on her land, and has to cope with a lack of rain, agricultural supplies and good quality fertilizer.

This will be Bytou's first year working with myAgro to buy good quality seed and fertilizer, and increase her harvest. This year, she is buying seeds and fertilizer to improve the harvest of peanuts on her 0.0625 hectare of land. She grows peanuts because they are a valuable food for families (often prepared as a sauce), and a good product to sell at market.

Bytou will use her increased yield and earnings to move into commerce as well. She also hopes to be able to pay for schooling for her children and provide enough food for her family.

In this group: Bytou, Kadiatou, Lala, Safi, Bytoutiene, Fatoumata, Adama
