A loan helped to buy brooms and cassava paste.

Djeneba's story

Mrs. Djeneba is 48 years old. She lives in a large family with her husband and their five children in Médine, a working-class district of the city of Sikasso (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

Having attempted many different activities without success, Mrs. Djeneba started to buy and sell cassava paste and brooms over 10 years ago. She conducts her business at the new market of Médine where she has a booth. She is in high demand due to the quality of her merchandise.

She partnered with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso over two months ago to meet the needs of a growing customer base. This is her first loan cycle. She plans to buy 20 packs of brooms and 60 bags of cassava paste (Tièkèdoro) in Bouaké (Ivory Coast) that she will mix to make high-quality Atièké (a cassava-based couscous).

Because of her work experience in the district, she sells her goods to a clientele composed mostly of women, cash or credit.

With this loan, she expects to earn a monthly profit of 150,000FCFA that will be used mainly to increase her working capital, to help cover family expenses, and to pay the loan interest.
