A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Grace's Group's story

Pictured above is Grace, who, as a group leader, is representing her group formed by 12 farmers in Kakamega North District, Kenya. Grace is known by her community as a very reliable person, and decided to represent her group because wanted to help more farmers.

Initially, Grace joined One Acre Fund in 2011 because she wanted to get the best quality fertilizer and hybrid seeds. Since she joined the program, she says that her life has improved, especially because she has learned a lot from farming trainings. With the profits from the coming harvesting season, Grace plans to invest in a business.

Between the 12 farmers in Grace's Group, a total of 7.5 acres of land will be planted using the maize seeds and fertilizer received with the loan. Additionally, some of the farmers in the group will be purchasing a solar light so, with this loan, the group will also receive a total of 8 solar lights."
