The communal bank 'Maria Auxiliadora' will start their thirtieth cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Los Andes regional office. It is made up of nine members and is run by a board of directors of which Silvia is the president. The members run a variety of businesses in order to make a living such as selling blankets, a local store, sale of cleaning products, a shoe shop, sale of chickens, and the production of sweaters. The loan system helps them to get ahead with their small businesses.
Silvia tells us that it is her sixth year with Pro Mujer. She became a member after an assessor from the organization visited her house. She sells blankets for a living. She started this business several years ago as she always helped her mother with the family business and learnt how to sell this type of product.
She will use the loan to increase her capital and buy cloth in bulk from the wholesalers in La Paz. She will then sell it on the border between Peru and Bolivia. This work allows her to generate an income to be able to support her family financially as she is single and has one son.
The thing that she likes most about Pro Mujer is the health benefits they offer.
