Charles's story

Charles has two young children that he is putting through school and taking care of thanks to the small general store that he helps run. The small store is located on the side of a major market where vendors converge twice a week to sell their wares. Charles benefits from the traffic and has one of the few structures of its size in the marketplace, which help him attract customers and his engaging personality has helped him get to where he is now.

However, though his store is a great asset, his inventory is relatively small to what it could potentially be, given his capacity for selling and the resource he has in having a large store to house a greater amount of goods. Charles has requested this loan to increase his stock and fill his shelves so that he can be a main supplier and distributor in his town outside the city of Trou-du-Nord. This would not only allow him to improve his own business to take care of his family, but to be a resource in closer proximity to many customers and fellow vendors who must travel further by foot or by public transportation in poor conditions to get many of the supplies that they need.

NOTE: Charles has established his business with regular clientèle in the community and is the president of his solidarity group. He represents nine other small business owners, who will each receive an equal share of this $1,200 loan to invest in their respective businesses. Each member has passed Esperanza's training program and demonstrated the ability and motivation to support their families and pay back their loan.
