Sabou Group's story

The women of the Sabou group are on average 40 years old with three children and all live in extended traditional families in Koro/Segou (fourth administrative region of the republic of Mali).
These women met through family links and work in the trade of sugar, clothing and condiments.
This is the first loan for the women of the Sabou group. Tata, the second woman from right to left in the photo; plans to use her loan to buy 20 kg of onions, 25 kg of salt, two packets of Maggi cubes, 20 litres of oil, 20 kg of shea butter and 20 kg of chili. She buys her supplies locally from wholesalers. She sells her goods to a mixed clientele for cash or for credit.
She hopes to make an average monthly profit of 20'000 FCFA which she will use for expenses relative to health, food, clothing and school fees, and she will reinvest the remainder in her business.
