A loan helped a member to weed the farm and harvest the crops.

Nkunemdea Group's story

Amadu is a member of Nkunendia Group. All the group members belong to a registered vibrant farming association. Amadu is 45 years old this year, and is happily married with two children, ages 18 and 8. Both of his children are in school. Amadu lives with his family in Abura Koforidua, in the central region of Ghana.

Amadu has been farming for the past 12 years, and has gained much experience. He grows oranges on ten acres of land. He is also a tailor, and though the tailoring business is doing well, his main source of income is still the farm. Amadu's farming association has obtained a contractual agreement with a local company that purchases the crops for processing into juice.

He just needs to maximize his profit now, and his only challenge is the difficulty in getting the micro loans from financial institutions locally to finance the costs required to maintain the farm and harvest the crops. In particular, Amadu needs to hire laborers for weeding, harvesting the crops, and transporting them to a sale centre for sale.

A micro loan will help Amadu to maintain his farm to increase his profit significantly, and his profits would far exceed the capital he needs to invest in his farm now. Amadu will use the gain from the farm to care for his family, and also help pay the school fees for his children. Amadu and his family thank all their micro-lenders for their generous assistance.
