Djiguiya is a group of women from the village of M’pessoba, in Cercle de Koutiala. They know one another well and live in large traditional families with their husbands, children, and other relatives. They average 45 years of age and have at least five children. This group of women does commerce in a variety of goods, such as peanuts, fruit & vegetables, and clothing, and they work in food service.
To expand their businesses, the group members had decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso loan program. They are on their 16th group loan.
Korotoumou, a member of the group Djiguiya, is the one sitting in the photo. A vendor of peanuts, she intends to use her loan to purchase some peanuts, which she sells retail to a diverse customer base. She procures her supplies at the market.
While the other members of the group Djiguiya plan on making an average profit of 175,000 francs CFA each over the course of this cycle, Ms. Korotoumou plans on making 180,000 francs.
In addition to paying back the loans, the group members use part of the revenues to cope with personal expenses and to increase their business capital. They would like to see bolstered this partnership with Soro Yiriwaso, so that their inventory levels do not drop too low.
