This area has harsh weather conditions and to survive, you must have tough skin, but Ruth has defied all the odds and has been engaged in farming for the past three years. Her primary sources of income are crops and animal farming. Ruth passionately loves farming and has even nicknamed one of her cows “Brown”, and whenever she is milking her cow, she feels proud. She is contented with the farming way of life. Ruth is a very enterprising woman, and although she never had formal employment, she has always worked hard on her farm and she has always assured her parents of a decent meal. The Kapsowar area has favorable conditions for horticulture farming, and that is why she is seeking a loan to start horticulture farming. Because of good roads, a good climate, and a good transportation network, she is sure that she will reap maximum profits and be able to increase her business. Being a woman and accessing funds in Africa is very challenging, but Ruth feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her. Ruth is very disciplined with finances and she plans that through the accumulated profits, she will be able to improve her living conditions and secure the future of her children to come.
