Estrella 1 Group's story

María is Estrella Group 1 leader, the group is composed by 10 women, they are al Ixil Maya, and they will invest their loans in agricultural, textile and retail activities. On average they have 3.8 children. The average of their loans is Q 4,920.

Studying was difficult for her, they were fourteen siblings, María is the second of them. When she ended her primary (sixth grade) her family could not support her studies. She traveled to Guatemala City, worked as maid for three years and saved her money and with that she continue studying. A Belgian Organization give her support, this allowed her to obtain the Title of Primary School Teacher. She has three children. She is Ixil Maya.

She learned doing business because her mother sold textiles to foreign people, and since she was a little girl, she was involved in her mother activity.
María has developed two entrepreneurial activities, she produces typical fabrics and has a photographic studio. Her loan is of Q 3,000 she will use it to buy raw materials and expand her business. She expects to get a monthly income of Q 2,000.
