There is no shortage of enterprising women in Guatemala, the country of eternal spring, where women take an important part in field work. That is the case for Lucia, 32 years old and single, with three children who are in school in her community. (Lucia is the woman who is first on the left in the photograph.)
The field of work she's proud to be involved in is growing bananas on the fertile fields of her community. She has been doing this work for more than 25 years and earns a good return for her family's finances. This is the heritage her father was able to provide her so that she could have a better quality of life in the future.
Lucia will use the loan she is seeking to maintain the banana fields so they will produce their fruit to be carried to the community's markets for sale. A group of people decided to join with Lucia to be able to make new efforts and take advantage of the rich land in their community, full of life for producing any agricultural product.
Lucia's dream is to plant more bananas in the fertile lands she can count on and in this way support the environment and at the same time obtain financial health for her family so that her children can one day become professionals.
